homenoise

2009

Homenoise finds its roots in Belgium when my dad got me into a workshop on building effect pedals. We brought home our very own little noise maker that we soldered ourselves on a handmade circuit board. The effect we built was a strange CMOS based fuzz that used an optical resistor to change parts of the circuit. That evening was an eye opener, not only did I learn that it was possible to build these pedals myself, I also learned that you can create circuits far weirder than what the average music shop provided back then.

2015

A bunch of DIY kits and breadboard projects later Homenoise was officially started as a business. The first product that was sold was the Black Lodge. A big box with nine knobs and four jacks containing a modulated delay and reverb combination that allowed for anything from your standard repeats to heavily warped soundscapes.

2018

In 2018 we decided to pack our bags and start a new life in Denmark. Homenoise continued to exist and I continued to build Black Lodges besides working a full time job until somewhere in 2020.

2020

The year where I decided to indefinitely close down Homenoise. The main reasons being a lack of inspiration and motivation combined with a need to spend less time working and more time with my family. At the time there were no plans to ever get back to building pedals as Homenoise.

2023

The urge, inspiration and drive to restart Homenoise emerged. After a lot of planning, designing, working out a healthy work life balance the company has returned. New pedals, new designs and a new look are part of it.

values

& vision

  • Danish minimalistic design has been a huge inspiration for the new Homenoise products. In the years after closing down the company in 2020 and while living in Denmark, I have been studying and learning about the reknown Danish design style which is incorporated everywhere in the day to day life in Denmark. For the new products, the goal was to combine this design philosophy with my own style and concepts.

  • At Homenoise I do my best to always aim for the highest possible quality of components to ensure a product that can go on tour, into the studio or any other demanding situation. My previous experience as an electronics repairs technician at one of the world’s largest event production companies has helped a lot in learning what works and what doesn’t.

Besides a good build quality I also focus on being able to deliver the same recognisable sound of a product in every single unit I produce.

  • The environment and nature are very important to me. So I do everything within my reach to try to reduce my ecological footprint.

I will always look at working with local suppliers and manufacturers if possible. This both supports the local businesses that offer services and products but also reduces the amount of air and sea shipments necessary to build a product.

Another aspect of a sustainable approach is to make easy to repair products.

The vast majority of the parts in Homenoise products are off the shelf components that are easy to obtain but also to replace with comparable components. This means that even if certain parts become unavailable over time, it should not be difficult to find a replacement part.

The material used for packaging is made in Denmark from FSC certified cardboard and paper.

You might also notice some reused material as you open up your package when it arrives. Since a lot of parts etc. arrive packaged, I tend to reuse that packaging if possible. This again is for the sole purpose of reducing the amount of packaging material that needs to be produced and thrown out for recycling.

Finally I would like to ask everyone to reuse whatever packaging your product arrives in for other purposes. The value of a product should be in the product itself and not in the cardboard box it was shipped in. I will only require you to provide the original packaging in case you return your product. Providing the packaging is not a requirement for warranty cases.
